Our story
Intona was founded in the late 1990s with the aim of meeting a quantitative need: the difficulty in supplying barrels for our own wineries and other related winemakers, all of which were booming; and also, a qualitative aspect: in-house understanding of the wood, its compounds, its development, its interaction with the wine… was still at a very early stage.
The market soon raised our cooperage to a privileged position in terms of skillful operation, bespoke production, a commitment to innovation and the transfer of know-how.
By combining at all times, the experience of our master co-founder, Fortunato Martiartu, with research and continuous improvement, Intona progressively grew into what it has now become: One of the most highly prized companies in the sector.

Our team
Intona’s young and dynamic professional team reflect the company’s values.
Every member not only works for Intona;
they are Intona, they feel Intona.
Aside from experienced coopers specializing in both standard and large formats, our team also includes two oenologists, one agricultural engineer and one chemical engineer. The combination of tradition and innovation is not just an empty claim for us.

Philosophy
Aware that we do not sell barrels, but what they will offer the people who use them: traceability and security, respect and adaptation to a wine or spirit, longevity and profitability, etc.
Each of our procedural tasks, from visits to the woodland down to the after-sales service and tastings with our customers, is painstakingly analyzed from a service perspective.
We like to work shoulder-to-shoulder with all our partners. We enjoy talking to them, interacting, growing with them, and resolving increasingly difficult challenges.
We are not infallible. We may make mistakes, but our customers and suppliers know that we will deliver a timely solution and will learn together.

How many types of barrels do we make?
We honestly don’t know.
Every customer is special, and within the more or less established standards of type of toasting, species of oak, shaping method, oxygenation capacity of the wood, sizes, etc. We operate within an infinite spectrum of possibilities, since every variety, every harvest, every production or every spirit is unique.

CSR
As members of the co-operative group Caja Rural de Navarra, we share commitments and challenges in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility.
The fight against climate change (we are carbon-neutral), for gender equality and diversity, the fight for sustainability, the circular economy, research, ethics and good practice with all our partners (internal and external) are the rules we live by, and in which we take real pride. But we never rest on our laurels, and instead aim continuously to improve.
